Comment on Interview Tips : What a company really wants from a candidate. by Jagan Ganti

Tips from a fresh grad :D

1. Check the job profile/role and be sure if you really need to apply for that particular job. Only for the reason that you are in hunt for a job, doesn't make sense you need to apply to ANY job that comes in the way of browsing. Do not bother to apply for a job if you think your capabilities are much more worth than the job requires :P

2. There are very good chances that you can end up with lack of interest in job if #1 is ignored.

3. Remember that you need a job and an interviewer needs a candidate for the company. It should always be a "win-win" situation. Just that you didn't clear an interview, doesn't mean that you are unfit. Be optimistic and speak "realistic" in the interview. Do not oversell during interview process.

4. In my graduation, I was taught to speak some "strengths" in the interview that I actually do not possess :P Get rid of that so called "interview skills". How can patience be my strength if I cannot wait for a web-page to load, for the red signal to turn green?

5. Do not fill in your resume with all the technical skills you have.I personally do not like resumes that have C, C++, java, core java, advanced java, supersonic java; .net 3,4,5, million; MySql, php 3,4,5; html 4,5; MS office 96,00,03,07,10(alpha, beta, gamma), OS - X, leapord, linux, MS 00, 00 server, Xp, vista, 07, whatever.

Garbage. Right!? Even if you are master of all trades, show your expertise in the field the job is opened for. Customize your resume accordingly.

6. Be clear, precise, passionate, honest and be confident.

7. Trust me, 7 among 10 resumes of my friend's' I have seen have the same "Career Objective". All are just out of college.
"To seek a position to utilize my skills in a MNC that offers professional growth while being resourceful, innovative and flexible". OR anything much similar to this.
Duhh.!

8. Smile, Greet - Thank, Smile :)

I have no idea how I landed here. But good advice there Ruchika. I'd think something else helpful would be, for the interviewee, to talk to people who are in the company and in their contacts or to get in touch with people who left the company to get a full picture before drawing conclusions for that last point.

@Peter
My advice to the candidates is to read the entire job description and apply. A lot of times candidates read the title and apply. That does not help the candidate nor the interviewer.
As for the platform being ASP.Net and PHP being a plus. A company can have requirements that involve lot of technologies.
