While regular matrimony sites and boring meets are getting out of vogue, neo-matchmakers have sprung up on the scene to play cupid. So, you have singles who are ready to mingle, catching up at a little game on the golf course, a paintball session, a cocktail making workshop or even at a social networking site…
SMARTER MATRIMONY
And since we are in the digital age, the marriage between social networking sites and matchmaking cannot be far behind. Couple Ruchika Abbi and Akash Saxena’s venture – Youpid takes off on that principle. So, you have a website (www.youpid.in) which works a lot like Facebook or any other social networking site. Ruchika elaborates, “Once a single person signs up at the website, he / she invites two or more of her friends who then invite two or more of theirs. Once the network spreads, singles among the circle get to know each other. Youpid is a social networking site catering only to matrimony.” The website is targeted at the 25 – 40 years age group…
Are YOU Ready?
We keep getting asked if Indians are ready to use social networking for Matrimony? The answer to that is that Indians are already looking for alternatives to traditional matrimonial sites. Since there is a lack of alternatives they end up using social networking sites like Orkut/Facebook. However, not everyone on Orkut/Facebook is there for the purpose of finding the special someone. This ends up in not-so-special experiences! To be unsolicited by someone when you are not interested or to not know if the person you’d like to know is interested in matrimony is one of the biggest drawbacks to using these sites for matrimony.
