Match Socially, Safely

Social Matrimony – Ready or Not!

The last couple of weeks have been really busy for Team Youpid. We’ve been working on introducing new features, attending startup events and we also got written about in the Press!

Bangalore Mirror featured Youpid.in to highlight how meeting people online is fast becoming the norm!

An excerpt from the Sunday Bangalore Mirror on 7th Feb 2010

While regular matrimony sites and boring meets are getting out of vogue, neo-matchmakers have sprung up on the scene to play cupid. So, you have singles who are ready to mingle, catching up at a little game on the golf course, a paintball session, a cocktail making workshop or even at a social networking site…

SMARTER MATRIMONY
And since we are in the digital age, the marriage between social networking sites and matchmaking cannot be far behind. Couple Ruchika Abbi and Akash Saxena’s venture – Youpid takes off on that principle. So, you have a website (www.youpid.in) which works a lot like Facebook or any other social networking site. Ruchika elaborates, “Once a single person signs up at the website, he / she invites two or more of her friends who then invite two or more of theirs. Once the network spreads, singles among the circle get to know each other. Youpid is a social networking site catering only to matrimony.” The website is targeted at the 25 – 40 years age group…

Are YOU Ready?

We keep getting asked if Indians are ready to use social networking for Matrimony? The answer to that is that Indians are already looking for alternatives to traditional matrimonial sites. Since there is a lack of alternatives they end up using social networking sites like Orkut/Facebook. However, not everyone on Orkut/Facebook is there for the purpose of finding the special someone. This ends up in not-so-special experiences! To be unsolicited by someone when you are not interested or to not know if the person you’d like to know is interested in matrimony is one of the biggest drawbacks to using these sites for matrimony.

An article in Sunday Times (Feb 14 2010) echoes this, a lot of people are using social networking sites and are requesting their friends to introduce them to their single friends. A recent survey by Pinstorm shows how more people are rejecting traditional matrimonial sites and using social networks to find a spouse.

Its very clear that finding matches on social networking sites is on the rise. However, its all about using the right forum and approaching those who might be interested otherwise such interactions can quickly become unpleasant. Youpid bridges this gap and facilitates connections with other like minded members. Youpid uses the power of social networking and helps you connect with people who are truly interested in finding that special someone.
